MAC Address

MAC address (=Media Access Control address) is a unique identifier used as an identity code and is assigned to most network adapters or NICs (=Network Interface Cards) by the manufacturer. The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) committee assigns blocks of addresses to a network card manufacturer. This procedure ensures that each network card has a unique MAC address. In order to find out the MAC address of your network card/adapter, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click on Run.
  2. In the text box type cmd. A DOS window openes.
  3. At the cursor, type ipconfig/all, and then press Enter.

In the list of information that you receive the Physical Address is the MAC address.
